Sárga szobor: Yellow Abstract Flower + Yellow Bricks Artist Statement: I create sculptures that incorporate 3D printed forms combined with found objects and other materials such as plywood, paint, and Lego bricks. While the Legos have been an obsession of mine since early childhood, 3D printing is a rather new addition to the way I work. 3D printing has allowed me challenge myself to make new forms of art that aren’t LEGO based by nature. Many of the printed forms are borrowed from traditional Lego forms, then hybridized by changes in scale and color. These forms are then combined with more free-flowing organic 3D forms that I model myself. My process is often collaborative, which aligns with my continued interest in creating large-scale public works. Conceptually, the juxtaposition of the more geometric or rigid forms against the more organic shapes and found objects, might be viewed as an element of a self-portraiture. This, alludes to the extremes of structure and chaos that have seemed to define my life as well as the way I have been working thus far. Going forward I am taking the leap of faith to get out of my comfort zone and create organic sculptures with LEGO systematic components while keeping 3D printing in mind. While the work in the exhibition is placed on the floor, it might have just as easily been mounted on the wall. Placement is primarily about what the specifics of what any exhibition opportunity might call for.
